I’ve spent more than 15 years working in event marketing, including leading marketing across some of the world’s largest and fastest-growing B2B events, exhibitions and event portfolios.
During that time I’ve dealt with many of the problems senior event marketers are expected to solve every day: growing registrations, improving audience quality, launching new events, building teams, setting budgets, defending investment, fixing underperforming campaigns and proving marketing’s commercial impact.
And one thing I’ve learned is that the difficult decisions are rarely difficult because you don’t have enough information. They’re difficult because you’re too close to the problem.
You’ve got sales, finance, leadership, sponsors, exhibitors and your own team looking at the problem from different angles. Meanwhile, the event date isn’t moving.
Sometimes what you need isn’t another framework, report or agency presentation.
You need someone experienced to challenge the thinking.
Someone who understands the commercial reality of event marketing, can ask the questions your team might not be asking and help you work out what you should actually do next. That’s what these sessions are for.
Senior event marketers rarely struggle because they don’t know marketing. The challenge is making the right call when there are competing priorities, incomplete information and very little room for error.

Registrations are behind pace and everyone wants to know what marketing is going to do about it.

You’re generating volume, but you’re questioning whether you’re attracting the right audience.

You’re spending more on paid media, but performance isn’t improving in the way you expected.

The positioning, proposition or campaign isn’t cutting through, but nobody can agree on why.

Leadership wants growth. Finance wants ROI. Sales wants better leads. Your team wants clarity. You’re trying to make all of it work at once.
And the closer you get to the event, the more expensive it becomes to make the wrong decision.
But most problems become much easier once you identify what is actually driving them. That’s where I can help.
THE CONSULTING SESSION
This isn’t a fixed consulting programme and I’m not going to arrive with a 50-slide methodology and try to force your problem into it.
You bring me the challenge you’re dealing with. I’ll bring an outside perspective, 15+ years of event marketing experience and a willingness to challenge the assumptions behind it. We can work through areas including:

Audience Growth
Registration strategy, acquisition, conversion, pacing and diagnosing why growth has slowed.

Audience Quality
Segmentation, audience prioritisation, buyer quality and balancing attendance volume against commercial value.

Positioning & GTM
Event positioning, value propositions, messaging, launches and go-to-market strategy.

Commercial Marketing
Pricing, free-to-paid strategy, marketing ROI, budgets and connecting marketing activity to revenue.

Performance
Paid media, campaign performance, conversion problems and identifying where your funnel is leaking.

Teams & Leadership
Org design, capability gaps, agency strategy, leadership challenges and building a marketing function that can scale.
The point isn’t to cover everything. It’s to solve the problem that matters most right now.
Sometimes that might be a registration problem. Sometimes it’s a pricing decision. Sometimes it’s a strategy you’re about to present to the CEO and you want somebody experienced to pressure-test it first.

You’ll have a clearer understanding of what the real problem is.

You’ll know what I believe you should prioritise and what I’d stop doing.

You’ll have an experienced outside perspective on the decisions you’re considering.

You’ll have a practical set of next steps rather than another list of ideas.

You’ll be able to pressure-test your thinking before committing more budget, time or resource.

And in many cases, you’ll have the confidence to make the decision you’ve been circling around for weeks.
The objective is simple: you should finish the session with more clarity than you started it with and a much stronger view of what to do next.

60-minute private video call with Richard.

Focused entirely on your specific challenge.

Pre-session context form so we can get straight into the issue.

Practical recommendations and next steps.

Strategic challenge and outside perspective.

For senior marketers and event leaders.

B2B events, trade shows, exhibitions and festivals.

Confidential 1:1 discussion.

You’re a Head of Marketing, Marketing Director, CMO or senior marketer responsible for delivering growth across an event, exhibition, trade show or festival. You know your business and your audience. You don’t need somebody to explain basic marketing to you. You need an experienced outside view on a problem that’s become difficult to see clearly from inside the business.

You’re responsible for an event business or portfolio and need a marketing perspective on a commercial decision, growth challenge, new launch, pricing strategy, audience issue or team structure. You want somebody who understands both marketing and the commercial realities of events.

These sessions aren’t designed to teach marketing fundamentals. They’re most useful when you already understand marketing and want help applying that thinking to a difficult real-world situation.

This isn’t outsourced marketing and I’m not going to build your campaign, run your paid media or write your marketing plan for you during a 60-minute call. I’ll help you diagnose the problem, challenge the strategy and decide what should happen next.
And if you’re looking for someone to simply agree with the plan you’ve already made, I may not be the right person either. The value of an outside perspective is being willing to challenge the thinking when I believe there’s a better option.
How long is the session?
Each 1:1 consulting session is 60 minutes.
What should I bring to the session?
Bring the problem you want to solve. Before the call, I’ll ask you for some context so we can spend as much of the session as possible working on the issue rather than explaining the background.
What topics can we discuss?
Anything connected to event marketing strategy, audience growth, positioning, pricing, performance, commercial marketing, launches, team structure or senior marketing leadership. If you’re unsure, send me the context before booking.
What types of events do you work with?
My experience is primarily across B2B events, exhibitions, trade shows and large-scale event portfolios, but the strategic principles also apply to many festivals and other commercial event formats.
Can my team join the call?
The session is designed primarily as 1:1 consulting, but if the problem would benefit from one or two relevant colleagues joining, we can accommodate that where appropriate.
